Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) has energized a new 115 kilovolt switching station worth around P220 million for ST Telemedia Global Data Centres Philippines’ (STT GDC) hyperscale facility in Fairview, Quezon City.
The company said in a statement on Thursday the in-building, dual-feed switching station within STT GDC’s Polaris Data Center will ensure stable power supply and enhance the data center’s operational efficiency.
STT GDC Philippines is a joint venture between Globe Telecom Inc., Ayala Corp. and Singapore-based STT GDC which operates data centers in Metro Manila, Cavite and Davao.
“This is a statement to the international community that the Philippines can build a world-class infrastructure that shows that we are more than ready to support the enabling of a digital Philippines,” said Carlo Malana, STT GDC Philippines president and chief executive officer.
Meralco said the facility was jointly constructed by its subsidiary Miescor together with Harmonic System Inc. to provide reliable and redundant electric service to the data center.
Merlaco’s energy services unit MServ also supplied and installed key data center electrical equipment such as high-voltage gas-insulated switchgears, oil-immersed transformers and medium-voltage dry-type transformers. “Meralco works closely with data center operators such as STT GDC to cater to their unique requirements. We are fully committed to providing reliable power and energizing critical infrastructure that will support the growth and development of the hyperscale industry in the country,” said Ronnie Aperocho, Meralco chief operating officer.
