THE Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) on Feb. 12 announced the approval of four projects of the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) aimed to boost stability in the country’s electricity needs.
Among the approved projects are the 230-kilovolt (kV) Granada substation in Bacolod; the 138-kV Sumangga substation in Ormoc; the 138-kV La Carlota substation in Negros Occidental; and one transmission line, the 69-kV Nagsaag-Tumana project in the Pangasinan.
Total cost of the projects is P5.01 billion.
The ERC ordered the NGCP to complete the Granada substation on or before Aug. 31, 2028 to address overloading issues of power transformers in the Bacolod substation, and serve as the new connection point for customers in Negros Occidental.
The La Carlota substation must also be done on or before the same date to prevent the overloading of the Bacolod-San Enrique line and to support power supply in Negros Occidental.
The Sumangga substation must be finished on or before Mar. 31, 2028 to stop power overloading in the Ormoc-Baybay line.
The Nagsaag-Tumana transmission line’s deadline for completion is on Nov. 30, 2025 to supply the growing demand in Eastern Pangasinan and also to end the overloading of the Nagsaag-Umingan line.
