The Energy Regulatory Commission asked the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines and system impact study providers to complete the process within 60 days.

It said in an advisory the time period is included in Section B14.11 of the Open Access Transmission Service Rules 2022 Edition.

The said section states that the party responsible for providing the SIS should complete it within a 60-calendar-day period unless otherwise agreed between the parties.

“The transmission network provider and the accredited third-party system impact study providers are hereby reminded to comply with the requirement of the sixty-day period within which to complete the conduct of SIS,” the regulator said.

Power generation companies apply with the Department of Energy for clearance to undertake SIS to determine their projects’ impact on the grid.

The DOE granted clearance to 13 power generation companies to undertake SIS in May.

Four of the 13 projects granted clearance were wind projects, the biggest of which was Himaya Offshore Energy Corp.’s 600-megawatt Basiad Bay Offshore Wind Power Project in Camarines Norte.

The department also approved Solus Wind Energy Corp.’s 300-MW Sorsogon onshore wind power project and Mirus Wind Energy Corp.’s 250-MW Camarines Norte wind power project.

It also approved Vent Fort Energy Corp’s 500-MW offshore Malay wind power project in Aklan.

Five solar projects were granted clearance for the grid impact study including NewAsia Power Energy Corp.’s 131-MW Cabuyao 4 floating solar PV plant at Laguna de Bay and Cabuyao, Laguna and NewAsia Power’s 131-MW Cabuyao 5 floating solar project also in Laguna de Bay.

The other solar plants were Solar Tanauan Corp.’s 64-MW Maragondon solar power plant in Cavite, NorteSol IV’s Inc.’s 131-MW Cabuyao 3 floating solar plant in Laguna de Bay and NortelSol Inc.’s  131-MW Cabuyao 2 floating solar plant also in Laguna.

Meanwhile, two hydropower plants were cleared to conduct a grid impact study—the 3.7-MW Silo-o hydro project of Philnewriver Power Corp. in Bukidnon and the 15-MW Upper Tabuk hydro plant of DPJ Engineers and Consultants.

Other projects granted clearance were Malita Power Inc.’s 56-MW diesel plants in Zamboanga City and Zamboanga del Sur and SPC Island Power Corp.’s 30-MW Bohol battery energy storage power plant in Tagbilaran City.
