Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi urged the employees and supporters of Benguet Electric Co. to go back to work and give the new general manager a chance.

“Let her assume the work and find out the problem and how we can better service the people,” Cusi said during an interview with ANC.
Member-consumer-owners organized a rally at the Beneco office to protest the takeover by the National Electrification Administration of the distribution utility.

They demanded that NEA-appointed Maria Rafael-Banaag and other representatives leave the premises of Beneco. NEA is now headed by Emmanuel Juaneza, an undersecretary of the DOE after former administrator Edgardo Masongsong resigned.

“DOE is watching the development and making sure there is no interruption in service,” Cusi said.
The Beneco board of directors appointed Melchor Licoben as the new general manager after the retirement of former GM Gerry Verzosa.
