Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi said Tuesday the Department of Energy is in control of the power situation, including in the election period next year.

“The DOE is in control of the energy situation. We want to maintain our track record of working for a quick recovery against any calamity and will endeavor to do so in the years ahead,” Cusi said in a statement.

Energy Undersecretary Felix William Fuentebella said there is sufficient supply of electricity for the election week. “The initial outlook shows sufficiency of supply, with no yellow alerts, and no power interruptions. Our goal is to maintain this situation, or improve it, and this could be done through our continued coordination and joint monitoring activities,” Fuentebella said.

He said while there is an anticipated thinning of reserves in May next year, there would be no power shortages during the election period.

“We are coordinating closely and monitoring the situation. We have to make sure that we continue or maintain the current scenario through proper coordination and cooperation,” Fuentebella said.
