Meralco PowerGen Corp. expressed interest to join the competitive selection process for the supply of 1,800 megawatts of base load power to Manila Electric Co.

“Yes, MGen will join,” Meralco PowerGen president Rogelio Singson said when asked for comment.
Meralco PowerGen is the power unit of Meralco, the country’s biggest power distributor that is planning to build the country’s first 1,200-megawatt ultra-supercritical power plant in Quezon.

Singson said the company continued “to prepare the site” for the Atimonan power plant.
Other power generators are expected to join the bidding, including San Miguel Corp., Aboitz Power Corp. and AC Energy Philippines Inc. of the Ayala Group, among others.

Meralco published the terms of reference on Thursday for the invitation to bid for 1,800 MW of supply, of which 1,200 MW should be available by December 2024 and 600 MW by May 2025.
